The global human rights watchdog, Amnesty International, said Boko Haram had killed at least 3,500 people since the beginning of 2015. The group said despite advances by the military, attacks by Boko Haram in Nigeria, Cameroon, Chad and Niger had claimed the lives of at least 1,600 people since the start of June. The United States Diplomatic Mission to Nigeria on Wednesday said 100 young Nigerian leaders would be trained at the 2016 Mandela Washington Fellowship in various American universities. This was contained in a statement by the Public Affairs Section, US Embassy, on Wednesday in Abuja. It explained that the Mandela Washington Fellowship was the flagship programme of President Barak Obama's Young African Leaders Initiative, which was a key part of US commitment to investing in the future of Africa. It disclosed that 86 young Nigerians had participated in the fellowship since its inception in 2014, adding that more than 26,000 young professionals in Nigeria had joined the YALI network. According to the statement, the 2016 Fellowship will train 1,000 young African leaders across three tracks, which include business and entrepreneurship, civic leadership and public management. It added that physical and spiritual fitness of the intending pilgrims was important to the success of the journey. Protesters under the auspices of Ohanaeze Ndi-Igbo Youth Movement (ONYM) have oragnised demonstrations at the entrance of the National Assembly complex in Abuja to show solidarity to the embattled Senate president, Senator Bukola Saraki who is facing corruption charges at the Code of Conduct Tribunal. The group's members who turned out in large numbers in the early hours of Tuesday, September 29, were seen carrying placards and banners depicting various inscriptions to show support for Bukola Saraki. They are opposed to calls that Saraki resign as Senate president. The group led by Uche Nnadi, alleged that the current trial of Senator Bukola Saraki was politically motivated by political elites under the guise of anti-corruption war. Civil servants in Ondo State  will be paid their two-month salary arrears on Tuesday.  The state's Commissioner for Information, Mr. Kayode Akinmade, in a statement after the state's Executive Council Meeting on Monday, said the state Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, had  directed  that the two-month outstanding salaries be paid on Tuesday as agreed by the state executive council. He said the meeting deliberated widely on the recent workers verification exercise. The commissioner added that Mimiko expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the exercise, especially the savings government was able to make through the blocking of loopholes exploited by some unscrupulous individuals to channel funds to  ghost  workers. "The governor also mentioned that officials identified to be involved in  manipulations discovered in the payment vouchers of workers in the state  will also face the full wrath of the law," the statement added.

Inspector Samuel Timothy of the Nigeria Police has been sentenced to death by hanging for shooting and killing a sachet water dealer, Onyekachi Nwasouba. According to The Punch, the ruling of Rivers State High Court is coming about five years after Nwasouba's murder that happened on November 10, 2010 in Port Harcourt. Nwasouba was branded an armed robber by the police while he was on his way to distribute his products to customers within the Port Harcourt metropolis. Although the dealer was shouting that he was only a pure water producer and not an armed robber, a team of police officer led by Timothy shot him dead. Delivering his judgment on Monday, September 28, Justice Adolphus Enebeli stated that the convict demonstrated an act of inhumanity through his action.

Thirteen people including eleven soldiers and two civilians were brutally killed in a daring armed robbery on a salary convoy. Eleven soldiers and two civilians escorting the salary convoy transporting $40,000 were killed in the Democratic Republic of Congo on Sunday. The money were meant to pay salaries for civil servants. The attack occurred on Sunday afternoon in the Uvira area of South Kivu. Six months ago armed men dressed in army uniform stormed the First City Monument Bank in Lekki, Lagos, late in the afternoon of March 12, shooting sporadically. 12 people including four policemen have been killed following the bank robbery in Lagos. The bank is said to be located around the Lekki/Ikoyi bridge. An eyewitness confirmed that a large number of armed men invaded the bank shooting sporadically.

Sepp Blatter says he will not stand down as Fifa president because of the criminal proceedings opened against him by Swiss investigators.
