The presidency has downplayed expectations from Nigerians that President Muhammadu Buhari will resume work in a “dramatic way” after spending 50 days in London, treating an undisclosed ailment. A group of commercial tricyclists in Kano have begun offering free rides to commuters , to celebrate the return of President Muhammadu Buhari from medical vacation in London . One of the tricyclists Malam Badamasi Aminu , told the News Agency of Nigeria in Kano on Saturday that the decision was made after a friend shared the idea with yhe association . The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, on Thursday intervened in the inter-bank foreign exchange market for the fifth time in three weeks by offering $100 million for wholesale requests. Out of the total offering, CBN spokesperson, Isaac Okorafor, said about $70 million was sold to meet requests for business/personal travel allowances, BTA/PTA. Since the commencement of the intervention exercises, the CBN said more customers of banks and other business people have been able to overcome the earlier difficulties they were facing in obtaining foreign exchange for their transactions. Mr. Okorafor said the CBN was committed to sustain the tempo of foreign exchange supply to the interbank FOREX market and ensure liquidity. "The Bank remains resolute in ensuring that it supplies enough FOREX to genuine customers of deposit money banks and increase liquidity in the market," Mr. Okorafor said. Despite the intervention of the Nigerian Communication Commission, NCC, to broker a peaceful resolution between Etisalat Nigeria and a consortium of banks, it appears the effort may not have yielded a truce, as the banks are set to take over the telecoms firm today (Wednesday), PREMIUM TIMES learnt. The consortium of some foreign and Nigerian banks, including Guaranty Trust Bank, Access Bank and Zenith Bank, have been having a running battle with the mobile telephone operator over a loan facility totalling $1.72 billion (about N541.8 billion) obtained in 2015. The loan, which involved a foreign-backed guaranty bond, was for Etisalat to finance a major network rehabilitation and expansion of its operational base in Nigeria.
