Buhari urged to ignore opponents of Amnesty programme

BOMADI —Niger Delta ex-militants under the amnesty programme, have
reacted to the purported demand of Reformed Egbesu Boys of Niger
Delta, calling for the sack of the coordinator of the amnesty
programme and Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta, Brig.
Gen. Paul Boroh (retd), over alleged inexperience in effectively
coordinating the programme.
They said that the call "sounds political and ill thought out" by
detractors of the programme.
They, meanwhile, frowned at the plan by Boroh to exit 5,000
beneficiaries of the amnesty programme at the end of this month,
saying that the decision was ill-timed and detrimental to ex-agitators
and the programme.
The ex-militant leaders under Phase 2 of the programme, rising from an
emergency meeting in Delta State by the state chairman, Mr Kingsley
Muturu, urged President Muhammad Buhari not to yield to the demands of
detractors of the programme, noting that beneficiaries of the
programme were satisfied with the running of the programme under
Boroh.
